Terminology

Chart/Notechart

A chart is an image representation of the notes from a particular song. A chart is considered blank and includes information such as estimated score (without activations), amount of whammy, star power/overdrive phrases, etc.

Path

A path is a chart that has been modified to show where one should activate star power/overdrive. This is usually shown by a blue transparent mask.

Star Power/Overdrive

Star power/overdrive is a feature which allows one to double the points they acquire for a limited duration. When star power is activated, all points gained are doubled. Star power/overdrive is accumulated by completing sections with stars or white notes without breaking your streak. This is usually shown with a green transparent mask.

Activation

An activation is considered one place where it is possible to use star power/overdrive. This is usually shown by a blue transparent mask.

Whammy

While completing a star power/overdrive phrase, you can accumulate additional star power/overdrive by using the whammy bar on hold notes. The rate at which you gain star power/overdrive varies for each game.

Squeezing

When hitting each note, there is a timing window. You may hit the note early or late. Squeezing is manipulating the timing window to hit more notes under star power/overdrive than the game intends to allow you to. These are usually shown by red transparent masks.

My account doesn't seem to be working. Was I banned?

This was most likely the case. Have no fear, I can undo it. A few people were abusing my system so I had to put a lockdown on a number of accounts. Some of the banned users didn't intentionally mean any harm but some have no excuse. Details on how to undo these changes can be found here.

Will you add full band charts?

That is questionable but maybe. The problem is that there are 64 different charts for each song. I currently store 8 of them. As you could imagine this would take up an enormous amount of space and take forever to do. My main concern at this point is get the main functionality of this site up and running.

Will you add drums/vocals for Rock Band?

I'm leaning towards no for now since there are only a few possible places to activate while guitar/bass has a more complex activation method.

How come I don't see some/any of the DLC?

Charts for this are not available yet. I would need someone to contribute those to me in order for me to generate blank charts for those.

You should be able to calculate how much star power you have at any given point. Why haven't you added this?

For one, I can't add this...at least for now. My program simply takes the chart image and places transparent images on top of it. It is impossible to extract data like star power duration from a simple image.

Even if I could, some songs vary when it comes to whammy as some songs are easier to squeeze than others. Plus, what is the fun if a computer does the thinking for you. Why wouldn't I just post the optimal paths for you?

Can you have the path creator calculate the estimated score by itself?

As it is designed now, this is impossible. Although I disagree with calculating the length of star power, I believe calculating the estimated score would be fair game. Having calculated estimated scores wouldn't narrow down on an optimal path as calculating star power length, allowing pathmaking to stay interesting. An issue with this, of course, is that the charts sometimes doesn't calculate scores right in cases where there are extended sustains.

How do I know how long a star power phrase lasts?

Everyone knows I, codemann8, am pretty good at making paths. I learned everything I know from malictus's guide. Although World Tour is different with being able to run over star power phrases, you'll just have to keep that in the back of your mind when reading it.

Since reading this guide, I've developed a few techniques of my own. I've been meaning to create a guide myself, but this project has been keeping me busy.

I have a cool idea. Can I let you know about it?

Absolutely! I encourage it. I've taken many ideas already. I have a forum open for this exact reason. It can be found here.

I found a bug that seems uncommon. How can I let you know?

I have a forum open for this exact reason. It can be found here. Please read through the forum first to see if the bug has been mentioned earlier.

Who all works on this project? How did it start? And why do you do it?

I, codemann8, am the only one on the project. Cubsruleaza21 also helps out with sorting through issues through the admin panel. I give credit to tma for providing GH1-GH3 charts, ajanata for providing RB and GH:OT charts, and the RubyDanger team for providing GH5 charts. tma's has been very helpful while I've been trying to get this site up and running. I also give credit to the Scorehero community as this project wouldn't have started without you.

I saw people complaining about the process of uploading paths only for them to sit there in the forum and not get updated in the OP. I also was one of those people complaining. Because of that, I came up with a solution and implemented it.

I also started this project because web development has always been a passion of mine. I guess it be a given to mention Guitar Hero is also a great passion of mine. In the last few months, I've actually picked up a real guitar and love to play that, just recently got an SG just like the GH2 controllers, AHmazing. Along with my interests, I've done work as an Applications Developer and dealt with database queries and have become quite proficient at SQL.

I also attend college at UW-Oshkosh and am soon to graduate. Before that happens, I am using this project as a practicum/research project. My real goal is to provide a good quality website that will hopefully be a useful tool and will in turn be self rewarding.
